Street Dancing Competition 2008

by Admin on January 16th, 2008 @ 4:37 pm | 918 views

As announced, the Street Dancing Competition was held on the 15th of January, 2008. This year’s Street Dancing Competition was previously scheduled on the 13th of January, 2008 but it was moved to January 15, 2008 because of weather conditions. The competition started at around 1:30pm and it was hosted by Ms. Sol Aragones and Mr. Leo Abril. As with the previous years, hundreds of people from all over the city and nearby towns and municipalities came to witness the event. I believe that the number of foreign tourists also increased. Street Dancing Postponed?

by Admin on January 12th, 2008 @ 8:25 pm | 313 views

Update: The Street Dancing Competiton will be on January 15, 2008 as announced in a local news channel. The Float Parade will continue today!

WHAT! My wife returned home today from the market and she told me that the Street Dancing Competition and Float Parade that is scheduled today was postponed. I know this is second hand information but it’s the only information that I currently have on the schedule. According to her, she got the news from the people she happened to talked to at the market. The postponement was due to the heavy rain that went on all night. In fact, it was so heavy that it almost flooded my computer room. I was lucky to get enough rags to dry the place.

She wasn’t able to get a more concrete schedule on when it will be held but I’ll be monitoring the local news channel and hope I get some updates. I will update this post once I have more info!

Happy Fiesta!

Umagang Kay Ganda @ San Pablo City

by Admin on January 10th, 2008 @ 9:43 pm | 1,190 views

ABS-CBN’s early morning show Umagang Kay Ganda was here at San Pablo City to feature our Coco Festival. Winnie Cordero hosted the segment and it was aired live at ABS-CBN Channel 2.

The segment was shot at the Plaza’s main stage. There were a bunch of people on the stage including the winners of the recently concluded “Lakan at Mutya ng San Pablo 2008″. San Pablo City Mayor, Vic Amante, was also up there on the stage while street dancers perform below.

Very few people came to see the broadcast and the setup wasn’t very impressive. I don’t want to compare but the Pangisdaan Festival, which was being covered by GMA at that same time, looked more impressive. This is the 13th year of the Coco Festival yet improvements are so minimal, if there were any. In fact, the very first Coco Fest is still the best of them all but I guess it’s still early to judge the entirety of this one.

Calla Lily @ 12:30 AM

by Admin on January 9th, 2008 @ 2:22 pm | 462 views

Tonight, Calla Lily went out to perform at around 12:30 AM. WOW! I really don’t understand why celebrity performers and artists always come out very late in the evening when some, if not many, of the people who came to watch them perform have already left for home. Well, yeah, there are still many people around waiting but wouldn’t it be better if they start earlier? Even if it’s a free concert I will not wait that long for a show to start. In fact, I’d rather go home and watch it on television specially when it’s also being aired live by a local cable channel.

Anyway, the band, Calla Lily, performed some of their more popular songs like Sanctuary, Stars and others. Their performance lasted about an hour, even less I think, and judging from the background noise (cheers, shouts and pops) the audience loved it.

I also noticed that the stage was filled with people. The stage was pretty wide but because of the people crowding it on both sides, it made the stage look and feel crowded. I’m surprised the drummer was able to play his instrument even with people just right next to him. What can I say? When it comes to this kind of things San Pablo City is still “bukid na bukid”. Ha ha ha!
