A few days ago I posted about where SanPabloCity.net is hosted. Today, I’ll post about why I selected BlueHost from the many web hosting provider that are out there in the web. Before BlueHost, my websites, including SanPabloCity.net, are hosted in Site5. I never had any problems with Site5 and compared to BlueHost, I think they provide a better Customer Support. The only reason I left Site5 was because they stopped accepting payments using specialized card like Electron and Maestro. That was bad for me because I don’t have nor own any credit card to pay for my web hosting and, back then, Site5 don’t accept PayPal as well (not sure if they accept PayPal now).

With my hosting expiring in less than a month, I was in hurry to find a new host to move to. My choices back then were BlueHost and Hostgator. A friend who used to own a Web Hosting Business suggested Hostgator but, unfortunately, I was a few dollars short. In other words, I ended up with BlueHost.
My first weeks with BlueHost was CRAZY because they suddenly suspended my account for FRAUD. They claimed that the Credit Card I used to pay them doesn’t match the country of origin. What’s really stupid about that claim was the fact that I did not use a Credit Card to pay them. I used PayPal.
Eventually, everything was sorted out and everything went fine until one of my websites got defaced by hackers, twice. First time it happened they provided support without question and assisted me in getting my site fixed. Second time, all they did is to let me know that they don’t provide support when it comes to site hacking cases. Clearly, their policy in providing support in such cases changed and it did not change in favor of their customers.
I was told that security of my account is my problem and that they would not provide support when such cases happen. It’s true but as a customer with no one else to turn to for help, hearing that line was very depressing. They could have at least offered to check my account for anything suspicious. Seriously, if I knew what to do then I wouldn’t even think of bothering them.
Right now, I’m just hoping that nothing serious happens because I just renewed my hosting a couple of months ago and I won’t be able to pay for a new host anytime soon because, right now, I’m broke as hell. Besides, moving from one host to another is not a very fun thing to do.
