Doña Leonila Park has a few big metal umbrellas with concrete benches around it where people can rest and get away from the rain or the hot sun. For a couple of years now, these metal umbrellas have laid there on the ground rusted and broken. You would think that because the park is just a few meters away from the City Hall or local government offices that they would get fixed or restored immediately.
Unfortunately, that is not the case here. As you can see from the photos that these metal umbrellas remained unattended and ignored by the people who run the city. I guess they’re just going to let rust do its job on these metal umbrellas and maybe after 10 years it will eventually turn to dust.
For many years, civic groups and NGOs have been beautifying the area around Sampalok Lake by building Mini-Parks and Rest Areas and it’s great but while they’re doing all these beautification and building they’re letting the park above it remain at its current sorry state.
Yes, the Local Government continuously maintains the park by having it swept for trash everyday, paint the benches and other stuff and take care of some of the plants but what they’ve forgotten to do is to fix and restore it to its former beauty. Broken railings, broken metal umbrellas, unfinished stage and even the walkway is broken and its been like that for a couple of years now.
I wrote this post hoping that it will get the attention of those in authority and do something. If they can’t fix or restore these broken metal umbrellas then the least they can do is remove them because, not only are they an eye sore, some kids might play on or near these things and get into an accident.
