I was doing my usual site surfing today when I stumbled upon a site that has a page about San Pablo City. There was nothing wrong about the information posted about our city except that it called our city a 2nd Class City. Nothing new about that either since even WikiPilipinas calls our city a 2nd Class City. What caught my attention about the page is the floating text that appears when you move your mouse over some links specially on links about other cities and municipalities in Laguna.

The floating text displays a brief description or info of what the link is about. For example, when you mouse over the link to Calamba the info displayed on the floating text is “Calamba City is a first class city in the province of Laguna, Philippines…”. The link to Santa Rosa City also shows the same info in its floating text. As for the municipalities like Santa Cruz, Los Baños, Cabuyao and San Pedro they all are described as “first class municipalities in the province of Laguna…”.
I guess it just shows how much other cities and municipalities in Laguna have progressed and their progress means progress for the entire province. Also, the growth and development of nearby municipalities will also benefit those here in San Pablo City. For example, people who can’t find work here in San Pablo City usually go to Cabuyao, Calamba City, Sta. Rosa City and other nearby towns to find work.
Anyway, as for San Pablo City being a 2nd Class City, I guess it’s just a matter of opinion. For me, San Pablo City has always and forever will be a First Class City.
How about you? Do you agree that our city is a 2nd Class City?

yeah, I agree that our city is a second class city or maybe 3rd pa nga. Nakakalungkot aminin pero parang yan ang totoo
depende yan sa income ng isang city or town para matawag na first class city or municipalities, I think sa dami ng business and stablishment dito sa san pablo and take note the association of commercial and rural banks dito marami di ba compair sa iba city at depende rin sa standard of living ng mga nakatira sa isang lugar, eh sa san pablo ang daming mayaman at sosyal ang living, kulang lang sa industrial state pero San Pablo City is a commercial, residential and tourist area in Laguna, para sa akin san pablo city is always a first class city.
2nd or 3rd Class, whatever… Put the blame on your good ol’ city mayor. To think that he will run again in 2010. If he wins by buying votes in the barrios where they are not as bright. Then welcome your city falling to 4th class or could it even be an oversize barrio. Sad but true.. he mainly targets the barrios where he pay hundred or two for their votes and a miserable 6 years to come. Good Luck kababayan in 2010.. Vote smart and wisely, please… Only you can help our city bring back to its feet..
Election day for our city govt . official is just around the corner, sanpablo is asking to be more vigilant to select our right official. Pag aralan po natin mabuti kung sino-sino sa kanila ang nararapan nating ihalal, umpisahan po natin na gumawa ng listahan ng mga kandidato at pag aralan po nating ang kanyang naging record advantage and disadvantage ng isang kandidato, and you as a sanpablenos citizen, you have responssibility to your beloved city to protect in all means of bad doing…
Based on the physical look of the city and the business here, 2nd or 3rd class city compared to other cities…
However, if you look at the number of people, the student population, the educated population, the purchasing power of the residents, and the number of shoppers in our local stores, San Pablo is on the top in Laguna.
If you go to Alabang, Lipa, Calamba, Lucena, most of the shoppers and workers are from San Pablo city.
I always travel by bus, and the most number of passengers are people taking the bus from San Pablo and getting off in San Pablo. Meaning, we really have a big, big potential as a City.
Sad fact is, it is being wasted by the leaders since the 80s.
Ang ganda ng potential ng San Pablo!
I its the leaders who is to blame for this. Second class city what you candescribe it because what I knew is before they (administrtors) let a bbusiness to be set up in the city, administrators ask for lagay for their ppockets kaya lumalayo ang mga investors dahil hindi pa nakaumpisa ay talo na agad sa negosyo.
San Pablo City is the 1st Class city ever created in Laguna. Calamba, and Santa Rosa are just rising to become a City. We have more barangays than the two new city. This two new cities created a lot of new business. If all professionals and business minded individuals start and expand their business in San Pablo City, no body in Laguna can compete our city in terms of income. Most people with low incomes are from other provinces. If our mayor will convince our people who are from other countries to start a business in the city, our cities will always a 1st class city. God Bless San Pablo City.
