Everyday, I get like hundreds of spams from e-mail spams to comment spams but I usually don’t put too much attention to it. For e-mail spams, I usually just delete them or mark them as Junk and let Thunderbird do the rest. For comment spams, I just let Akismet, Simple Trackback Validation and WP SpamFree do their thing in detecting, marking and filtering out comment spam and they are doing a hell of a job at it. So, why am I blogging about SPAM?

You see, just a few moments ago I received a series of spam which I would call special. Why? Because they came from a fellow San PableƱo.
The spams I received from him were comment spams which contains his PayPal referral link. Obviously, he is trying to get people to register with PayPal using his referral link and get a little commission from it. I was kinda surprised because my plugins didn’t catch it as spam so what I did next was I just manually marked them as spam so my plugins will recognized it the next time it happens.
Now the question is, how did I know that it came from a fellow San PableƱo? This is how. You see, after marking all of those comments as spam, I received another comment and this one came from someone I knew. Well, I don’t know him personally, I just knew him through the internet. In fact, some of you might know him as well.
Anyway, what caught my attention about his comment was the IP address and the network name. They looked very familiar so I went to check my e-mail to review the comments and comment spams that I recently got and there it was. His IP address and network name matches the IP address and network name of the one who spammed his PayPal referral link here. Take note that the comments came in just minutes of each other.

The IP address used was 203.84.185.38 and looking at the network name which is B86_acl1.gw.smartbro.net, I can say that he is on Smart Bro. Smart Bro is a wireless internet service offered by Smart.

(The Spammer – Note the IP address and network address)

My suggestion for those who are planning to do some spamming, never ever use your home computer. ![]()
