As announced, the Street Dancing Competition was held on the 15th of January, 2008. This year’s Street Dancing Competition was previously scheduled on the 13th of January, 2008 but it was moved to January 15, 2008 because of weather conditions. The competition started at around 1:30pm and it was hosted by Ms. Sol Aragones and Mr. Leo Abril. As with the previous years, hundreds of people from all over the city and nearby towns and municipalities came to witness the event. I believe that the number of foreign tourists also increased.
Leading the official contestants were a series of street dancers performing as an exhibition. The first group was composed of students from the former Annex 5 now called Col. Lauro M. Dizon National Memorial High School. I think they were one of last year’s winners. Why they are not in the competition this year? Well, your guess is as good as mine. They were followed by a group from Greenwich, a popular local fast food, and by a group of Korean Nationals who performed a little Street Dancing of their own. They also did some Tae Kwon Do exhibition. One thing I can say about the Koreans is that they were more enthusiastic than our local crowd. They cheered, they clapped and they were really enjoying the festivities.
At these point, I decided to go home because the heat was starting build up and my location wasn’t really that great for taking photos. My digital camera only has 3x digital zoom and photos taken using a digital zoom isn’t very pretty. I guess I’ll just have to watch the replay of the competition on a local cable channel.
